Transportation Tech Chooses Pawnee City for Operations
Rural location provides benefits for new company

Lower operating costs, quality of life and connectivity were key factors in Transportation Tech’s decision to open an office in the southeast Nebraska community of Pawnee City. The firm, which is a learning company dedicated to producing high quality tools to train and support Intelligent Transportation System Technicians, builds college curriculum, online training and support services such as online communities and online equipment guidebooks.

“We plan to initially hire five employees to work in our Pawnee City location and see the potential for additional growth,” says Ryan Johnsen, Executive Vice President. “Staff will be working to help develop our online training materials and support services by fulfilling many roles including content curation, forum moderation, data entry and customer support.”

The company received support from Southeast Nebraska Economic Development District, The State Bank of Table Rock, Pawnee City Council, Chamber of Commerce and local development committee in making the project a reality.

“Pawnee City is a great community with a tremendous amount to offer a new technology company like ours,” said Johnsen, “Rural Nebraska stands on reasonably equal footing with metro areas due to advances in internet and cloud computing.”

Transportation Tech came into being when the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recognized a critical shortage of technicians and need for a curriculum for training Intelligent Transportation System Technicians at the community college level. FHWA issued a Small Business Innovation Research Grant to motivate private industry to help meet this need; Transportation Tech applied for and was awarded a grant to create that curriculum and other online support tools as well.

Pawnee City is served electrically by Nebraska Public Power District Retail.
