At a time when the economy is struggling, it’s refreshing to hear stories that provide hope for our communities and their businesses. A recent expansion announced by Vireo Resources, L.L.C., located in Plattsmouth, offers some of that good news we are all craving.
Vireo, a nutraceutical company, manufactures holistic products for people and pets that can be effective, healthy alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs. Although based in Tennessee, a Nebraska branch was opened in 2008. Now, the firm’s leadership has made the decision to build a second plant in Plattsmouth, adding millions of dollars to the local economy and up to 200 jobs in the next three to five years.
The Plattsmouth City Council approved a $55,000 forgivable loan which the company will use to purchase 6.62 acres of city-owned ground. The land, adjacent to the current plant, will be home to the new plant and as many as 40 additional workers by the end of 2020!
In an article from The Plattsmouth Journal, Mayor Paul Lambert praised the company and city officials for creating a strong working relationship. He also gave credit to Jennifer Serkiz of Cass County Economic Development Council and NPPD’s own teammates for helping Vireo realize the benefits of growing their operations in our great state.
“It’s encouraging to see quality jobs and new capital investment being made in our communities. The NPPD team assisted in the original recruitment of Vireo to and Plattsmouth in 2008 has provided support for this expansion project for some time. It’s exciting when the results of all that effort come to fruition to help our communities be successful,” Account Manager Craig Vincent said.
