After nearly three decades with Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) and an incredible 44 years dedicated to the economic development and chamber world, Rick Nelsen is stepping into a well-earned retirement. His contributions to this field have left a lasting mark that will be felt across Nebraska for years to come.
Throughout his 30-year career with Nebraska Public Power District, Rick served as a steady and trusted resource partner to communities, businesses, and organizations across the state. His work helped strengthen the relationship between public power and the communities it serves, with a focus on long-term growth and effective solutions.
“Over the past 20 years I’ve known Rick, he has been more than a trusted partner—he’s been a connector, a mentor, and a friend to so many of us in this work. His ability to build genuine relationships and lift others up has left a lasting impact not only in Nebraska, but across the country,” shared Lisa Hurley, Executive Director of the York County Development Corporation.
Rick’s commitment to economic development extends well beyond his time at NPPD. His 44-year career in economic development and the chamber space reflects on more than experience. It shows his deep commitment to helping communities grow, building strong connections, and consistently showing up for the people and places he cared about.
NPPD Economic Development Manager Nicole Sedlacek said, “Throughout his years of service, Rick has been more than a leader in economic development, he has been a trusted coach, a mentor, and a champion for others in the field. His willingness to share knowledge, guide with intention, and invest in people has not only strengthened our communities, but also the foundation of economic development in Nebraska.”
As Rick begins his retirement, there is much to celebrate. His career reflects the impact of steady leadership and long-term commitment.
