Ribbon cutting welcomes Community Solar to Norfolk

July 12, 2022

Yesterday’s bright and sunny day was the perfect setting for a ribbon cutting held at the site of NPPD’s newest Community Solar project and battery energy storage systems in Norfolk. The event, hosted by NPPD, the City of Norfolk and solar developer N Solar, welcomed approximately 50 people and honored all who worked diligently to complete the 8.5-megawatt solar project.

Guest speakers for the event included President and CEO Tom Kent, NPPD Board Member Bill Johnson, Sustainable Energy Manager Dave Rich, Norfolk Mayor Josh Moenning, N Solar’s Bridget Callahan, Director of the Nebraska Department of Energy and Environment Jim Macy, and Retail Account Manager Brittney Koenig, who served as emcee.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with the City of Norfolk to bring this project to fruition and to continue building our partnership with residents and businesses in Norfolk who want to participate in a renewable energy project,” said Koenig.

The project is the state’s largest and was developed by N Solar, a three-company partnership that includes Mesner Development, Gen Pro Energy Solutions and Sol Systems. It will enable Norfolk residents to purchase the energy produced at a fixed price to offset standard Retail electricity.

“Interest in Community Solar continues to grow within NPPD’s Retail service territory, and this project serves as a model for other communities,” said General Manager of Retail Services Pat Hanrahan. “It’s a tremendous milestone to complete this solar facility, prepare to commission our first utility-scale battery storage unit, and see additional growth of solar projects in several other NPPD Retail communities, as well.”
