Nebraska Business Development Center Recognizes Award Winners

April 14, 2021

Three businesses in the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) service territory were recently named Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) Business Award winners.

Winners include Turtle Creek Construction of Kearney, Government Contractor of the Year; Weiland Doors of Norfolk, Champion of Small Business; and Royal Engineered Composites of Minden, Innovation Business of the Year.

The NBDC Business Awards recognize NBDC clients who demonstrated business success through job creation and sustainability, sales growth, successful government contracting, innovation in product or service offerings, and other business achievements.

Turtle Creek Construction was founded in 2016 to provide construction management, design-build, and general contracting services throughout Nebraska and the surrounding states. It is a certified 8(a) and service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB), founded by veteran Javier Arias. Turtle Creek Construction is served electrically by NPPD Retail.

Weiland Doors was recognized not only for its growth in employees and revenue, but its involvement in the community. Weiland Doors has more than 30 years of experience building doors and windows exclusively for industrial applications. The company is served electrically by Elkhorn Public Power District, a wholesale customer of NPPD.

Royal Engineered Composites was recognized for its efforts to improve automation to increase reliability and consistency in the products they offer for the aviation industry. Royal Engineered Composites is served electrically by Southern Public Power District, a wholesale customer of NPPD.

“Congratulations to all three award winners as they represent the best of Nebraska businesses,” said Mary Plettner, NPPD Economic Development Manager. “We also salute NBDC for their role in growing Nebraska businesses.”

“The highlight of the NBDC Business Awards celebration is hearing from the award winners describing their business and success,” said Catherine Lang, NBDC State Director. “Our NBDC Business Award winners are right to be proud of their accomplishments. Nebraska business owners are the backbone of the economic success in Nebraska, creating jobs, building strong communities and supporting the economy of Nebraska.”

NBDC is a statewide program, with 10 office locations across Nebraska. NBDC’s credentialed consultants provide confidential, one-on-one business services to entrepreneurs, established business owners, innovators and economic and community development professionals.
