Community leaders recently broke ground for an $11 million solar array that will generate about 5 percent of the community’s energy needs.
Located adjacent to Kearney’s Tech oNE Crossing Technology park, the 53-acre project is a sign to data centers and other technology businesses that Kearney is the right place to locate, according to Mayor Stan Clouse.
Businesses are increasingly relocating and investing in communities where renewable resources are available, while reliability is ensured from a diverse energy portfolio. NPPD offers both with strong, baseload resources while supporting community projects such as Kearney’s.
The project, owned and operated by Chicago-based SoCore, will sell energy to Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), which will sell power to customers in the Kearney area. The project is expected to be online in early 2018.
