  Valentine, the county seat of Cherry County, is located in north-central Nebraska at the intersection of of U.S. Highways 20 and 83. Valentine is also served by State Highway 12. Valentine is 299 miles northwest of Omaha, Nebraska, and 393 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado.

Valentine has two lighted, paved runways which are 4,400 and 3,700 feet long and are equipped for full instrument landing capability. Jet and LL100 fuel are available for sale. Currently there are 24 planes housed at the facility. Valentine is continuing to expand their air service. Meanwhile, full service is available 130 miles south at North Platte, Nebraska where they have three daily flights daily to Denver, Colorado.

Adult education programs are available in the high school in cooperation with the Mid-Plains Community College. The city park in Valentine has playground equipment in numerous places as well as picnic tables, grills, fishing, walking paths and camping areas. The ballfield complex has two softball fields, three little league fields, one legion field and a playground. Annual celebrations include Valentine's Day, 1884 day, Bull Bash, Fourth of July, Cherry County Fair, Old West Days. Summer recreation programs include swimming, baseball, softball and flag football. Cultural activities are provided by the Valentine Arts Council and Sandpainters Art Club.
