| Members of the Village Board are elected at large on the basis of alternating four-year terms. Currently, the following are village board members: Chairman Faron Hines, Barbara Drake, Dorothy Farley, David Flick, and Sue Foulz. A volunteer fire department provides protection for the area, which is a consolidated effort with the Village of Gresham. Regarding law enforcement, Thayer is served by the York County Sheriff's Department which has eight sworn officers and 12 support personnel. Regular patrol is provided by the county department, which has six marked cruisers, a variety of communication equipment and all the standard enforcement equipment required by the state. The Nebraska State Patrol Troop C, headquartered in Grand Island, NE, also provides service for the Waco area. |

| Thayer students travel by bus to Centennial Public Schools in Utica, NE, which is located six miles south and eight miles east of Thayer. The district serves a total of 525 students from the communities of Beaver Crossing, Utica, Waco, Thayer, and Cordova. The 2006-2007 operating budget is $6,000,000 with an average cost per pupil of $11,000. Eighty percent of Centennial School District high school students take the ACT, with an average score of 22.8. Seventy-five percent of graduating seniors attend college immediately upon graduation, while twenty-five percent enter the workforce directly after graduating. Opportunities for higher education and continuing education in the county are available at York College, a 4-year private liberal arts college located in the city of York. Other colleges and universities within a 60-mile radius include: Central Community College, Concordia University, Doane College, Hastings College, Southeast Community College, and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. |

| The Thayer park was recently updated with new playground equipment, as well as other park immenities. There is also a monument that has been placed in the park, commemorating the historic school that was once in operation in Thayer. |

| A number of medical facilities are in close proximity to Thayer, as there are hospitals located in Seward and York, NE, with a specialty clinic also located in York. Medical clinics are located in Seward, York and Utica. There is also veterinarian service located in York, which again is located five miles west, five miles north.
