  St. Edward lies in the scenic Beaver Valley in the southeast corner of Boone County. Nebraska Highway 39 runs through town, and Highway 56 comes in from the west. St. Edward is about 110 miles west of Omaha; 100 miles northwest of Lincoln; and 30 miles west of Columbus.

Loup Power District, a wholesale power customer of Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), is a full-service, public power electric utility in eastern-central Nebraska. Headquartered in Columbus, Neb., Loup's service area covers approximately 2,028 square miles. The District maintains 780 miles of transmission and distribution lines and has been generating electric power since March 5, 1937. Total population within Loup's service area is approximately 50,000. Loup purchases, sells and delivers approximately 1.2 billion kilowatt hours of electric power annually to wholesale and retail customers across a service area that spans four counties entirely and parts of three others. St. Edward is part of Central Community College which encompasses 25 counties. The college maintains administrative offices in Grand Island and operates campuses at Hastings, Columbus, and Grand Island as well as practical nursing programs at Kearney, Grand Island, and Columbus, and community education centers in 89 communities in the area. The Platte Campus in Columbus offers vocational, technical, and academic transfer programs designed for transfer to four-year colleges. Northeast Community College in Norfolk also offers many programs and is the home of the Lifetime Learning Center which will offer many opportunities to citizens of the area. Four year colleges within a two hour drive from St. Edward are located in Omaha, Lincoln, Wayne, Fremont, Blair, Seward, York, Bellevue, and Crete. Region IV Services in Columbus serves adults in Platte, Colfax, Boone, and Nance counties with development disabilities. The agency provides habilitative/vocational training and residential services.
