  Schuyler is the county seat of Colfax County and is served by two highways (U.S. Hwy 30 Expressway & NE Hwy 15). Governed by an elected Mayor and City Council, Schuyler is a first-class city (pop. 5,163). Located 60 miles (55 minutes) west of Omaha, 65 miles (70 minutes) northwest of Lincoln and 12 miles east of Columbus. Schuyler is strategically positioned for sustaining its current economic growth.

Schuyler is served by a main line of the Union Pacific Railroad with 60 to 70 freight trains daily. Switching is done by a local switch crew as needed. There are 2,500 inbound and outbound cars (excluding through cars) annually. Amtrak provides Omaha, 70 miles east of Schuyler, with rail passenger service east to Chicago and west to Denver and San Francisco/Oakland.

Headquartered in Columbus, Neb., Loup's service area covers approximately 2,028 square miles. The District maintains 780 miles of transmission and distribution lines and has been generating electric power since March 5, 1937. Total population within Loup's service area is approximately 50,000. The Schuyler Police Department consists of a police chief, seven sworn officers, and two support personnel. Schuyler Community Schools provide students with opportunities to learn through expanded classroom activities. The city of Schuyler parks system consists of two parks covering approximately 155 acres. Facilities include a swimming pool, fishing ponds, five ball diamonds, campgrounds, tennis courts, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball court, fitness court and playground equipment. Railside Green located in the downtown business district, has plant life made of 22 overstory trees, 18 understory trees, 70 evergreens, 254 shrubs, and three varieties of native grasses. It is an affiliate of the Nebraska Statewide Arboreturm through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Schuyler area residents enjoy hunting deer, pheasants, quail, ducks and geese. The Platte River, sandpit lakes and the South Park ponds provide fishing waters for crappie, bass, bullheads, blue gills, perch, northern pike and catfish. The Schuyler Golf Club provides a scenic, public nine-hole golf course and a new club house located in South park.

There are an estimated 1,771 homes in the community, 62% are owner-occupied. Within the last 5 years there have been building permits issued for one duplex and 24 single unit houses. Nine new houses will be built in 2006. The Schuyler Housing Authority operates Whispering Pines, a seven story high-rise constructed in 1968. Alegent Health-Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed facility fully accredited and professionally staffed. Two family physicians, two mid-level providers and 90 full-time and 35 part-time employees serve people. The hospital offers a wide range of health care services including an adult/pediatric unit, emergency room services renovated in 2005, a home health program and many outpatient clinics. Three dentists provide dental services. Beverly Healthcare is a modern nursing facility with 53 licensed skilled care beds. Beverly also provides 15 assisted living units. The licensed nursing facility is staffed by highly skilled health care professionals, providing a wide range of nursing and rehabilitation services with all therapies on staff. Two pharmacies in Schuyler are Cunningham Drug and Schuyler Pharmacy. Eyecare Associates provides eyecare and corrective lense services. Groene Chiropratic Clinic PC provides chiropractic services in Schuyler.
