| The Pilger Recreation Area, located 1-3/4 miles northeast of Pilger, is managed by the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District. The lake permits 5 mph power boating, picnicing, hiking, swimming, fishing, and canoeing. The Red Fox Wildlife Management Area is one mile south of Pilger, consists of 363 acres, with 5/8 mile of river frontage. Grasslands and scattered wooded areas and a 25-acre sandpit lake are part of the area. Reed Fox is open to hunting, fishing, canoeing, and primitive camping. Annual celebrations include the 4th of July celebration and Pilger Days in July. |

Faith Regional Health Services is 13 miles away in Norfolk. There are a total of 185 licensed beds, including a 13-bed Behavioral Health Services Unit opened in 1995. It expands the existing emergency Protective Custody Program serving 22 counties. Major building renovations have occurred in the last decade involving Intensive Care Unit, a seven-bed Pediatric Unit, and the Carson Regional Radiation Center.
