| Many improvements have been made to the recreational opportunites in town, namely to the City Pond now referred to as "Pawnderosa". Six camper beds with electrical hook-ups, running water, a handicapped-accessible fishing pier and a picnic shelter have been added. The charge is $10.00 per day for electrical hook-up, otherwise free with no hook-up. Pets are allowed. The pond, recently deepened, is stocked with bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. A new bike trail was completed in the Spring of 2006. The trail runs from near the center of downtown at 8th and G Street to the Prairie Hills Sports Complex on the east edge of town. The "Connector" bike/hiking trail runs approximately 14-16 blocks long and wanders through a picturesque timber area. The Prairie Hills Sports Complex includes 3 fields, ample parking, refreshment stand, public rest rooms, picnic shelter and playground equipment. The community's two unique museums are a must see. The Pawnee City Historical Museum site consists of 17 buildings including the house of Nebraska's first governor, an 1856 log cabin, old time country store, church and schoolhouse and antique farm-machinery displays. The Pedal Clinic in Pawnee City has numerous displays of pedal cars and unique toys from yesteryear and appeals to all ages. |

COMMUNITY NOTES |
| Our Community: | Designated the Redbud Capital of Nebraska, Pawnee City is a beautiful little city with many trees, nice homes, well kept yards and gardens, good schools, churches, parks and recreation facilities. It is the home of CJ Foods Inc., Foods Extrusion of Custom Grains, a large animal food manufacturing plant. It is surrounded by a large area of fertile country where diversified farming is carried on. Located near the center of Pawnee County, the Pawnee City townsite was selected as the county seat in 1856. The county erected its first courthouse in 1869, and even rebuilt it nine years later. Legend tells us that the town is on the exact spot where the largest village of the Pawnee Indians was located. The first rail lines arrived in Pawnee City in 1881 when the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad built throughout the county. In August of 1881, a devastating fire destroyed over half of the community’s businesses. Pawnee City can look to a future that presents significant opportunities. Strong regional highway links, outstanding historic resources, and the presence of the county seat, community schools and hospital and medical services are key building blocks to the community’s future success. | | Suggested Sites: |
