  Niobrara is in the north-eastern part of Nebraska right on the boarder to South Dakota. Niobrara is a small, progressive town. It is the headquarters for the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and home of Niobrara State Park. Native Americans gave the town its name, which means "running water".

The Bloomfield Municipal Airport, 30 minutes southwest of Niobrara, has a 2,700-foot paved and lighted runway, tie downs, hangars, telephone, and fuel. Four private planes are hangared there. The nearest point of scheduled air services is at Yankton, South Dakota, 45 miles. United Express serves Yankton with two flights daily to Minneapolis. The Karl Stefan Memorial Airport in Norfolk, 75 miles, provides air freight, air express, and passenger services. Supplementary all-cargo service (air/truck) is available with departures daily. The Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, Iowa, 95 miles east of Niobrara, is served by two commercial carriers with 13 departures daily.

Barge:

The Sioux City River Port is 95 miles east of Niobrara. These river ports are navigable approximately eight months per year. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains 9-foot deep, 300-foot wide channel for 735 navigable miles from Sioux City to the mouth of the Missouri River. Commodities transported by towing companies are alfalfa pellets, cement, concrete forms, distillers' dried grain, feed, feed ingredients, fertilizer, grain, machinery, molasses, newsprint, nitrogen fertilizer solution, propylene gycol, rock-aggregate, salt, steel, and twine.

The Niobrara attendance center presently enrolls approximately 160 students in grades K-12. There are currently two full-time administrators, 20 certified employees, and 14 classified staff members providing support service. With an abundance of quality instructors, the low student/teacher ration (8:1) provides local students individualized instruction and attention resulting in higher student achievement. Niobrara Public Schools recently received "exemplary" ratings for the Nebraska Department of Education for their assessment process. Students also received "very high" ratings for the results of their reading and writing assessments. Many of the employees are life-long residents of Northeast Nebraska and their Niobrara area. These roots to the area provide a solid foundation for a quality educational delivery system.
