These river ports are navigable approximately eight months per year. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains a 9-foot deep, 300-foot wide channel for 735 navigable miles from Sioux City to the mouth of the Missouri River. Headquartered in Columbus, Neb., Loup's service area covers approximately 2,028 square miles. The District maintains 780 miles of transmission and distribution lines and has been generating electric power since March 5, 1937. Total population within Loup's service area is approximately 50,000. Newman Grove has seven miles of streets, all of which are paved and armor coated. Thirty percent of the streets have curbs and 75 percent have sidewalks. More curbs and gutters will be installed. | Located at 8th and Hale Avenue, Newman Grove Public School is part of Madison County's District 13 School System. Accredited by the State of Nebraska, this public K-12 school has an approximate enrollment of 250 students. Newman Grove High School began in 1998 to operate on a block schedule with four classes per semester with 240 credits needed for graduation. College courses are available in Newman Grove School in cooperation with Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. A new 7-12 grade facility was completed in the fall of 1997 and three more classrooms were added in 2002. A Distance Learning Center equipped with a two-way audio and video communications system is linked with other communities including the Lifelong Learning Center at Northeast Community College. This technology opens educational and business conferencing opportunities for all ages. |

| Seventy percent of the 340 homes in Newman Grove are owner-occupied. Golden Age Apartments, a 17-unit housing project built in 1965, consists of five apartment buildings and laundry room. Eleven of the apartments are one bedroom and six are two bedroom (including two handicap accessible two bedroom units). All the apartments have a stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer, and include utilities (except cable and telephone). The community room is available for residents and may also be used by community groups. The Kennedy Apartments consist of five buildings built in 1981 and 1986. The complex includes 14 two-bedroom apartments and five one-bedroom apartments. Each apartment is furnished with all appliances, including washer, dryer, furnance, and air conditioner. |

Outpatient clinics are scheduled monthly at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, 15 miles west of Newman Grove. The Boone County Health Center has a cardiac rehabilitation unit. Residents in Newman Grove utilize the Boone County Health Center in Albion and Faith Regional Center in Norfolk, 36 miles northeast of Newman Grove. The Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home is a 41 bed state licensed, nonprofit nursing facility owned by five area Lutheran churches and managed locally. Services include physical therapy, nursing care, medication, and dietary management, personal laundry and housekeeping, activities, and social services. The home provides "Meals on Wheels". The Newman House, an 18 bed assisted living facility is a subsidiary of the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home, also owned by five area churches and managed locally. Services include medication assistance, housekeeping, laundry, three nutritious meals and snacks daily, activities, and transportation services. The facilty was completed in 2003. |
