Mitchell's Jr. High and Sr. High are combined in one building. Western Nebraska Community College in nearby Scottsbluff offers Associate of Arts & Science transfer degree programs. Applied technology programs are also in place. A Distance Learning System allows students to complete Bachelor's and Master's Degrees through Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska. WNCC's Center for Business & Individual Training provides high quality, affordable seminars, workshops and customized training programs. The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing prepares students for Bachelor's and/or Master's of Science Nursing Degrees, as well as Nurse Practitioner Certification. Over 80% of nursing graduates find employment in the immediate region. Regional West Medical Center's School of Radiologic Technology is a two-year program and is the only radiographer education program in Western Nebraska. Platte Valley Bible College offers Bachelor's Degrees in ministry areas. Educational Service Unit 13 offers services to the handicapped. Region I Office of Human Development offers services to those with developmental disabilities.

Lake Minatare is approximately 10 miles northeast of Scottsbluff. Encompasses 2,973 acres, including the 2,158 reservoir. Camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. Boasts one of only seven inland lighthouses in the U.S., constructed during the Depression Era. Built entirely of native stone, stands 55 feet tall. Riverside Zoo in Scottsbluff is located on 23 acres and is accredited by the American Zoo & Aquariums Assoc. Houses about 250 animals, including reptiles, birds & mammals. Campgrounds & picnic area adjacent. Hosts the annual Spooktacular in late October. Mitchell has an outdoor swimming pool, and the YMCA is located between nearby Scottsbluff and Gering. Scottsbluff and Gering have several swimming pools as well, with plans for a new swim park to be constructed in Scottsbluff in 2003. Mitchell's Scenic Knolls Golf Course is a public 9 hole course, driving range, and lounge. Located 2 miles north of Mitchell on Nebraska Highway 29. Course measures 3,261 from the medium tees and 2,573 from ladies tees. Par is 36. Mitchell is home to the annual Scotts Bluff County Fair in late August. Mitchell is also home to the historic Nile Theatre. Nearby Scottsbluff and Gering have multiple museums, walking trails, bowling alleys, an indoor roller skating rink, and several theatres.

Regional West Medical Center in nearby Scottsbluff is an acute care hospital serving Western Nebraska, Eastern Wyoming, Northeastern Colorado, and Southwestern South Dakota. It is one of only three Level II Trauma Centers in Nebraska. More than 400 medical specialities represented. Affiliated with the Heart Center of the Rockies and the Colorado Neurological Institute. Cancer Treatment Center, Behavioral Health Services, Home Care. Also serves as a training site for a family practice residency program through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Panhandle Community Services offers a wide range of health & human services, with a sliding scale fee structure. Panhandle Mental Health Center offers community mental health services to 11 counties in Western Nebraska. Numerous dentists, orthodonists, optometrists, opthalmologists, and chiropractors. Several veterinarians. Mitchell, Scottsbluff and Gering all boast modern retirement/nursing homes. Mitchell's outpatient clinic part of Horizon's West Medical Services in Scottsbluff.

Our Community:Mitchell is a small community that is home to the annual Scotts Bluff County Fair. Mitchell is nicely situated between two larger communities, Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Torrington, Wyoming.
