With 9 sworn officers and 15 support officers, the department provides patrol, rescue, and is on call 24 hours a day for all municipalities, including Lushton. All eight of the department's vehicles are equipped with recently upgraded onboard cameras and state-of-the-art breathalyzer/testing equipment. All law enforcement personnel are equipped with bullet-proof gear and carry state-of-the-art weaponry. Members of the sheriff's department have been extensively trained in drug awareness and enforcement, handling HAZ MAT scenes, situations and products, interrogation and many other areas. The department provides regular patrol to local industries, checking security sites, entrances and exits on a rotating basis. An extensive upgrade of the county's 911 system is planned. The county is currently involved in the process of installing Global Information System (GIS), which will assist the sheriff's department as well. top of page COMMUNITY NOTES
Our Community:Lushton has a population of 28 and is the site of an elevator facility which is frequented by local agricultural producers. The Lushton Cemetery, located one-half mile southwest of the village, is one of the more popular sites within the county. Originally the United Brethren Church Cemetery, it was given to the village in 1927 and renamed. Records indicate that the first burial was in 1872. The Civil War veterans group - Grand Army Republic - erected a statue of C. W. Hayes, in memory of all military men. In 1952, the ground was given as a burial plot for any member of the armed forces needing a burial place. Because of this, in 1960, it was stated that the Lushton Cemetery was the smallest National Cemetery in the United States. The cemetery contains veteran graves of all wars, including the Civil War and the Spanish American War.
