Arrow Stage Line provides one bus in Columbus, 27 miles south of Leigh, with daily passenger and package service to Norfolk and Omaha. Interconnections are made at Omaha to major cities in the United States. Charter services are also available. |

| Loup Power District, a wholesale power customer of Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), is a full-service, public power electric utility in eastern-central Nebraska. Headquartered in Columbus, Neb., Loup's service area covers approximately 2,028 square miles. The District maintains 780 miles of transmission and distribution lines and has been generating electric power since March 5, 1937. Total population within Loup's service area is approximately 50,000. Loup purchases, sells and delivers approximately 1.2 billion kilowatt hours of electric power annually to wholesale and retail customers across a service area that spans four counties entirely and parts of three others. | Colfax County has 12 townships and is governed by three county commissioners elected by popular vote for four-year terms. The village of Leigh is governed by a Board of Trustees who are elected at large.
Fire protection is provided in the community by a 28-member volunteer fire department. Fire protection is also provided in the rural area by the Leigh Rural Fire District. Leigh has 34 fire hydrants.
Leigh employs one full-time and and two part-time policemen and nine support personnel. Equipment in the department includes fully equipped police car, shotgun, pistol, uniforms, office files and supplies, finger printing equipment, and camera. |

| School District No. 39 in Colfax, Platte, and Stanton counties cover 80.7 square miles. The new elementary school, with a maximum capacity of 210, was built in 1999. The junior-senior high school was built in 1917 with an addition in 1954 and has a maximum capacity of 210. Vocational courses offered in the high school include Vocational Agriculture, Computer, Business, and Consumer Sciences. Evening college courses available in the community include Business, Computer, English, and Accounting.
Leigh is part of Central Community College's 24 county service area. The college is governed by an 11-member Board of Governors elected by citizens of the area served. The college maintains administrative offices in Grand Island and operates campuses at Hastings, Columbus and Grand Island. In addition, the college offers college courses in more than 80 communities through Learning Centers. |
