COMMUNITY NOTES |
| Our Community: | Fairmont is a town rich with history. The railroad came in 1872 and the town was incorporated the next year. Fairmont Creamery was established in 1884 and became one of the nation's largest food processors and was later known as Fairmont Foods. In 1942 the Fairmont Army Airfield was built on 1,980 acres just south of town. It housed B-17s, B-24s and B-29s and had barracks for 6,000 soldiers. It was declared surplus in 1946. Today Fairmont, at the junction of Highways 6 and 81, is a perfect location whether a person is looking for a home or commercial needs. It is a quiet community where it is safe to let your children walk by themselves to school and neighbors greet each other. Some Fairmont residents who enjoy small town living commute to Geneva, York and Crete, where several large employers are located. Fairmont has residential and commercial building sites available for sale or rent. Thank you for checking our profile and let us know if you would like more information.
