(Clay, Fillmore, Hamilton, Jefferson, Nuckolls, Saline, Seward, Thayer and York counties.) A Labor Supply Factors and Labor Availability for the Fillmore County Labor Area was conducted in 2009. It was prepared by NPPD. The Fairmont State Airfield is located two miles south of Fairmont. This state-owned airfield has a 4,400 foot light, hard-surfaced runway. There are 30 private planes in hangars, some of which would be available for charter flights. The York Municipal Airport, 25 miles north, has a 4,400 foot light runway and a 3,600 foot concrete runway. Scheduled air service is available at the Lincoln Municipal Airport. This airport located 50 minutes east of Fairmont offers passenger, air frieght, and air express services.

The students in Fairmont are part of the Fillmore Central School system with a population of approximately 600 students. The elementary school building (K-4) is located in Geneva, the middle school is located in Fairmont, and the high school (9-12) is located in Geneva. A full range of business, vocational, agriculture, consumer economics, and industrial technology is offered. Bus service is at no cost to students living in and around Fairmont. There is a K-8 Christian private school in Geneva.

Fairmont has a large park with a swimming pool, playground equipment, and picnic tables. They also have ball parks; tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts. Fairmont hosts the "Old Settlers Picnic" each summer to continue the tradition begun in 1876. The day is filled with all kinds of activities including an evening BBQ and dance.

Fairmont is served by the Fillmore County Hospital, an acute care hospital, just eight miles south of Fairmont. The hospital is licensed by the state of Nebraska and approved for Medicare and Medicaid. Six family practice physicians and one physician assistant make up the local active medical staff. Fillmore County Hospital has 70 sub-specialty physicians on courtesy/consulting staff. Diagnositc, X-ray, CT, MR, mammography, nuclear bone scans, nuclear cariolite, ultrasound, and cardiac rehab are other hospital services. Speciality clinics are held on a regular basis.

Our Community:Fairmont is a town rich with history. The railroad came in 1872 and the town was incorporated the next year. Fairmont Creamery was established in 1884 and became one of the nation's largest food processors and was later known as Fairmont Foods. In 1942 the Fairmont Army Airfield was built on 1,980 acres just south of town. It housed B-17s, B-24s and B-29s and had barracks for 6,000 soldiers. It was declared surplus in 1946. Today Fairmont, at the junction of Highways 6 and 81, is a perfect location whether a person is looking for a home or commercial needs. It is a quiet community where it is safe to let your children walk by themselves to school and neighbors greet each other. Some Fairmont residents who enjoy small town living commute to Geneva, York and Crete, where several large employers are located.
