LOCAL MANUFACTURING CHARACTERISTICS

|
| Duncan is where Dorothy Lynch Salad Dressing is made. Yes, there really and truly was a Dorothy Lynch. In the late 1940s, Dorothy Lynch and her husband ran the restaurant at the local Legion Club in St. Paul, Nebraska. This is where the original recipe for Dorothy Lynch Home Style Dressing was born. As the Legion Club members were introduced to this delicious recipe the legend of Dorothy Lynch began to grow and the dressing fast became a "must-have" favorite. Stories of local people bringing their own bottle or jug to town to have it filled with "that delicious Dorothy Lynch salad dressing" were quite common.
In 1964, Tasty-Toppings, Inc. purchased the recipe and rights to Dorothy Lynch and built a production facility in Columbus, Nebraska. The company later expanded its production capacity with a modern 64,000 square foot plant in Duncan, Nebraska. This is where every bottle of Dorothy Lynch Home Style is produced today.
Responding to changing nutrition and health issues, Dorothy Lynch 100% Fat Free dressing was introduced in 1987. Today the familiar red and yellow bottles of Dorothy Lynch Home Style and 100% Fat Free Dressings are available in 26 midwestern and western states. The product is available in some eastern states via specialty distributors. Dorothy Lynch can also be purchased and shipped via Dorothy Direct.

COMMUNITY NOTES |
| Our Community: | The town of Duncan was named in 1880 for a favorite conductor of the Union Pacific Railroad. It was originally a post office named Cherry Hill and then named Jackson--and noted as such on Union Pacific maps and publications--before picking up the name Duncan. Duncan lies between the Loup and Platte Rivers in Platte County, Nebraska. Duncan is located on Highway 30, eight miles west of Columbus, Nebr.
Several miles south of Duncan lies the Great Platte River Road, sometimes called the Overland or Oregon Trail, which was the highway to the west during the early days of the 19th century. North of town was the site of the village for the Pawnee Indian Nation. Also north of town, was the Mormon Trail, which Brigham Young and his Latter Day Saints used for their journey to Utah in 1847.
Duncan was settled by Swiss and Polish immigrants, whose enterprising and proud spirit live on through their descendants who still live here today. This Web site was created to tell you about the highlights of Duncan. What you won’t read about are the porch parties on hot summer nights or the sledding down a hill on a snowy Sunday morning. Neither is there mention of how citizens rally around a neighbor in need or the words of a lifelong resident and former postmaster who said at age 90, "that although the outward appearance of her town had changed, the essence of it had not -- peaceful evenings, kids being kids and citizens striving for a better life." | | Suggested Sites: |
