| Barge service is available at 19 barge terminal facilites on the Missouri River on the east border of Nebraska. The Blair, Nebraska river port is 50 miles southeast of Dodge. These river ports are navigable approximately 8 months per year. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains a 9-foot deep, 300-foot wide channel for 735 navigable miles from Sioux City, Iowa to the mouth of the Missouri River. Commodities transported by towing companies are alfalfa pellets, cement, concrete forms, distillers' dried grain, feed, feed ingredients, fertilizer, grain, machinery, molasses, newsprint, nitrogen fertilizer solution, propylene glycol, rock-aggregate, salt, steel, and twine. |

The most direct mid-continental railroad route to the west coast passes through Fremont and on to Los Angeles and San Francisco California. The Union Pacific ramp is located on 8th and Mason Street in Omaha and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe ramp is located in south Omaha at the Gibson Yard.
