  Cedar Rapids is located in Boone County in north-central Nebraska in the heart of the Cedar Valley. NE Highways 56 and 52 serve the community. It is also located 58 miles north of Interstate 80 and 127 miles northwest of Omaha.

The Nebraska Central Railroad serves Cedar Rapids through its nearest location in Albion. The Cedar Rapids portion of the tracks is now closed and will not be reopened. The Albion portion of the tracks now serves an ethanol plant and has several trains weekly, as needed. Nebraska Central connects to the Union Pacific and the BNSF Railway Company. Loup Power District, a wholesale power customer of Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), is a full-service, public power electric utility in eastern-central Nebraska. Headquartered in Columbus, Neb., Loup's service area covers approximately 2,028 square miles. The District maintains 780 miles of transmission and distribution lines and has been generating electric power since March 5, 1937. Total population within Loup's service area is approximately 50,000. The 25-member volunteer fire department also works in conjunction with the Cedar Rapids Rural Fire District providing mutual aid to surrounding towns and is aided by 911 service. Eight volunteer EMT's are also available by 911 service with a fully servicable ambulance Cedar Rapids contracts with Boone County Sheriff for law enforcement and has a deputy that lives in the community.

Cedar Rapids has one public school: grades kindergarten through 12th. Cedar Rapids is in the Central Community College area out of Columbus. The Public Library serves as a Distance Learning Center for college classes.

Cedar Rapids has a unique pasture golf course, Timber Creek Cow Patty, that is open to the public by first calling the owners (Mac McPhillips at (308) 358-0638). It is a nine-hole course located 12 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids. Canoeing of the Cedar River is an enjoyable pastime for the people of the area. Cedar Rapids Medical Clinic, at 106 South Third Street, is open three half days a week. Boone County Health Center is located 18 miles northeast in Albion and has 25 beds and 5 bassinets. Cedar Rapids has several CNAs and others that work at the area nursing homes. There are five nursing homes and two assisted living units within a 20-mile radius. A new business is in place that helps with elderly care in the home.
