Served by Nebraska Highway 121 and U.S. Highway 275, the community is located 12 miles west of Norfolk, NE; 94 miles southwest of Sioux City, IA; 130 miles northwest of Omaha, NE; and 137 miles northwest of Lincoln, NE. Four-lane U.S. Highway 81 is located 12 miles east of Battle Creek.

Battle Creek is also rich in history, having received its name from a battle with the Pawnees that was avoided by the quick thinking of Pawnee Chief Peta-le-sharu.
