The Rock County Airport in Bassett has a 4700-foot paved and lighted runway and a 2000-foot sod runway, parking ramp, pilots lounge, hanger, tie downs, and aviation fuel. Bassett is one of ten airports in the state programmed for new LORANC nonprecision instrument approach. Five private planes are hangered there. The elevation at the airport is 2,346 feet, the latitude is 42º34'27"N, and the longitude is 99º34'17"W. The neared points of scheduled air service are at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport near Grand Island, 160 miles (2½ hours) southeast, and the Sioux Gateway Airport at Sioux City, Iowa, 185 miles (3 hours) east of Bassett.

Bassett is served by a 69,000 volt transmission line providing a two-way feed from O'Neill to the east and from Ainsworth to the west. The NPPD substation has a 3,100 kVA capacity and serves the community with a distribution voltage of 4160 wye. The 69,000 volt shielded transmission line serving the substation is tied to the NPPD 115,000 volt statewide grid system.

Natural gas is available for residential and commercial uses. Availability of natural gas for industrial uses is subject to individual situations. The municipal water system in Bassett is supplied by three wells. One well is 300 feet deep and the other two wells are 60 feet deep. The system has a combined pumping capacity of 1,700 gallons per minute and an overhead storage capacity of 50,000 gallons. The average daily demand is 120,000 gallons, and the historic peak daily demand is 1,400,000 gallons per day. The system has a maximum capacity of 2,498,000 gallons per day. The static pressure is 58 pounds per square inch and the residual pressure is 55 pounds. Groundwater is available for industrial uses. A 300-foot well will produce 1,000 gallons of water per minute. The quality of water in Bassett does not necessitate a water treatment plant. The water table has not changed significanly in the past five years. Bassett Grade School is a K-8 facility and Rock County High School is a 9-12 facility. Wayne State College will deliver graduate courses through distance learning. Northeast Community College (NECC) in Norfolk, Nebraska, is located 125 miles East of Bassett and NECC also delivers adult education distance learning classes in the evenings. In the summer of 2005, the Bassett Grade School installed new playground equipment and a new outdoor basketball court.

The five parks in Bassett cover 92 acres and have a swimming pool, playground equipment, covered shelters, grills, picnic areas, camping, ball fields, walking trails; target practice range, horseshoe pits, tennis court, and a sand volleyball court. Summer recreation programs include baseball, softball, T-ball, swimming, tennis, golfing, and BAM wrestling. Bassett has facilities for: Boating -- Boating facilities and canoeing on the Niobrara River, tubing the Pine Creek, and all types of boating at Merritt Reservoir Fishing -- Excellent fishing at Pine Creek; Niobrara River, 20 miles; Calamus Dam, 50 miles; and Merritt Reservoir, 80 miles. Golf -- One private 9-hole grass greens course with clubhouse in Bassett - public welcome Hiking/Biking Trail -- Cowboy Trail of 321 miles Hunting -- Excellent hunting for pheasant, grouse, prairie chicken, ducks, geese, turtle doves, turkey, raccoon, deer, and antelope. Skating -- ice skating on ponds in season Swimming -- one municipal pool Tennis -- A lighted hard-surfaced tennis court Other -- Scenic drives along the Niobrara River Valley or surrounding countryside. Bassett Arts Council provides cultural activities such as concerts, ballet, dances, dinner theater, Missoula Children's Theatre, community theatre, etc. The Grand Generation Club, a senior citizens group, enjoys horseshoes, quilting, pool, cards, and dancing. The Rock County Senior Center also offers daily meals and activities for seniors. Annual events include the North Central Nebraska Ranch Expo in June and the Rock County Fair in August. The Rock County Historical Museum in Bassett includes displays of the heritage of Rock County and a gift shop. Exhibits include a pioneer home, Galloway House, a log cabin, Valley Grove School, Red Windmill, Chicago and Northwestern Depot, St. Michael Catholic Church, and railroad artifacts including a caboose. Work is in progress on the longest rails-to-trails conversion in the nation. The Cowboy Trail, which passes through Bassett, will span 321 miles through northern Nebraska when completed. This hiking/biking trail follows the gentle slopes of the old Chicago and Northwestern rail line.

City participates with Niobrara Valley Housing Development Coalition for housing rehab and down payment assistance for low to moderate income persons and the Bassett Development Corporation works to improve the housing stock and availability in Bassett by trying to obtain and demolish obsolete housing, clean up vacant lots and by building their first spec house for sale to a low-to-moderate income person or family. The first spec house was sold in 2004.

The Rock County Hospital is composed of three parts - acute care, long term care, and physician's clinic and is linked to the Good Samaritan Health System in Kearney via telecommunications. Long Term Care has 30 beds and is Medicaid approved. There is also a pharmacy located in the facility. Physical and occupational therapists are also located at the hospital. Bill Lurz, DDS, has his office in the Rock County Clinic as well as Cathy Hinrichs, Optometrist. Greater Sandhills Family Health Care PC is also located in Bassett with a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, and Physician's Assistant on staff. Bassett Family Practice, associated with West Holt Memorial Hospital, Atkinson, Nebraska, is located in downtown Bassett. Central Nebraska Veterinary Clinic is located East of Bassett along Highway 20 and is served by veterinarians from the Broken Bow office.
